How you do anything is how you do everything

I have always been a firm believer in cross-field core habits. You’ve probably heard the saying, “How you do anything is how you do everything.” This means that your core self—your strengths, weaknesses, and habits—are reflected across all areas of your life.

If I cold plunge every morning and start my day with something difficult, I become more resilient and better equipped to tackle hard situations at work. Conversely, if I tend to be overly controlling in my relationship, that same trait likely manifests in my professional life as well.

We can leverage this concept in two key ways. First, by analyzing and understanding our strengths, we can apply them to entirely different fields. Recognizing that we already possess valuable skills makes new challenges more manageable and less intimidating.

Second, we can work on our weaknesses outside the field where they typically arise. Take the cold plunge example: If I struggle to focus on complicated and challenging tasks at work, developing a morning routine that includes a cold plunge can help rewire my brain to embrace discomfort and push through difficulties.

Your identity is not confined to a single label. We are constantly evolving, and achieving success in any area of life requires a high level of performance across all aspects self. To become the person you aspire to be, you must shed your old self and intentionally cultivate the characteristics that define your ideal future self—across disciplines, habits, and mindsets.

Stay growing folks,

Santi
